There is ART in Lake Lure!

One of the laments of locals and visitors alike is that there is no place where they can view a permanent collection of art.

However, a fantastic permanent collection does exist in our area.

The 1927 Lake Lure Inn and Spa has a great collection for all to view at anytime.

The Inn also duplicates the aesthetic experiences that grand hotels provide in such cities as New York and Paris!

Original furnishings of the hotel and bits of hotel history discovered during its renovation are preserved here including oddities such as the oak-cased annunciator at the front desk, tiles and nickeled fixtures from original baths, early hotel registers, and mementos left behind by long-departed guests.

Take a comfortable hour or so to walk through their public rooms, halls, and lobby to experience the hundreds of antiquities and historical exhibits comprising the Inn's Art and Antiques Collection.

The tour is self-guided and free. You are welcome to visit from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., daily.. A lighted, American mahogany and stained glass bar back, along with period paintings, accessories, and breakfront cabinets, can be found in the Veranda Restaurant.

An 1870's Baccarat crystal chandelier illuminates the foot of our central staircase, while each landing and the front foyer are lighted by matching, jeweled stained glass windows. An art glass and bronze chandelier lights the third floor mezzanine, and china cabinets at landings and along hallways bulge with antiques and historic pieces.

The hotel's New York "self winding" clock keeps perfect time, while "The Lady in Red," (E. Hoop, 1928) watches over the main lobby--a grand space filled with paintings, marble and bronze statues, period lighting, furnishings, and architectural elegance. The Powers Room and the Moose and Goose Lounge are home to various photographs of local interest, exceptional antiques, oil paintings, and an historic ambiance.

The hotel is home to a world-class collection of magnificent upright disc music boxes from the 19th Century. This stunning array of large, carved, inlaid, and exceedingly rare instruments (some as tall as eight feet) is on public display throughout the hotel. Makers such as Regina, Polyphon, Symphonion, Stella, and Fortuna crafted these amazing machines.

Do visitand see this great collection that is hidden in plain sight for all of us to enjoy!

Lake Lure Online Newspaper Endorses Walter Dalton For Lt Governor

The Local Newspaper for the Lake Lure area, The Hickory Nut Gorge News has recently endorsed a true local for Lt. Gov. of NC

http://www.mynewsletterbuilder.com/tools/view_newsletter.php?newsletter_id=1409750135

"There is perhaps no more local family or individual who has worked harder for the Rutherford community than Walter Dalton!

His efforts to preserve Chimney Rock and our area has earned your support this November 4th for Lt. Governor!

Growing up in Rutherford County, Walter was a leader. A popular student who did well in school, he quarterbacked his high school football team.

His good grades and leadership qualities led him to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

After receiving a degree in Business Administration, Walter went to work in banking. He later returned to Chapel Hill to earn a law degree. In 1971, Walter married his high school sweetheart, Lucille. Thirty-five years and two children later, they are still an inseparable partnership. Like their parents before them, Walter and Lucille raised their children, Brian and Elizabeth, in Rutherford County.

Recently, when Chimney Rock, a natural landmark, came up for sale, Walter successfully led the effort to add it to our state park system.

It was not a new fight. Throughout his career, he has fought to preserve North Carolina's natural beauty, working to add gameland to the South Mountain State Park, enlarge Lake James State Park and create Hickory Nut Gorge State Park.

Through his efforts he has helped preserve more than 500,000 acres of land in North Carolina by creating or expanding state parks.

He alo prevented the private sale of Chimney Rock and Hickory Nut Gorge by incorporating it into the State Park System.

Those of us who live in Lake Lure and Chimney Rock and those who love our mountains urge you to vote for a local who has worked the hardest to preserve our area- WALTER DALTON for Lt. Governor of NC"
